I wanted a Basenji from the age of about eight, when I saw a photo of a one in a dog breed book at school; how exotic and fascinating they seemed to a child! My first Basenji was a present for my birthday; that was more than 40 years ago and I have not been without one or more since then; I also owned and showed Borzoi for a number of years. At the time of writing I have just one very elderly and much loved Basenji. I awarded my first set of CCs in 2003; I award CCs in Basenjis, Borzoi, Greyhounds, Ibizan Hounds and Whippets, and am designated a breed specialist for Basenjis and Borzoi. I have had the great privilege to judge nine Basenji breed specialty shows all around the world; in the UK, six times in European countries, in Australia, and in 2011 the Basenji Club of America National Specialty, elected by my peers. I judge many other breeds, the Hound and Pastoral groups and BIS at open level, and have been Secretary of the Basenji Owners and Breeders Association since 2008; I am also on the Committee of the South Eastern Hound Club. Away from the dog world I have a keen interest in maritime and railway history, and am a member of the Goodwood Road Racing Club.
